Two UNC students are planning to begin the fall semester by making their own movie.
Junior psychology major Kelly Artz and senior English major Tiffany Smith are directing and producing a feature film written by Artz.
The film, "Snap," is a science fiction narrative that approaches different December 2012 mythologies, prejudices and social conflicts that Americans face after the millennium.
The story begins as Abbey Brewer worries over her fiancé's departure to Sudan to film a documentary. Left alone and feeling distraught about her fiancé's safety, Abbey's best friends are determined to not let her sulk. What is supposed to be a fun weekend in San Francisco turns into a fight to stay alive as the world begins to crumble around them. A deadly volcano has erupted in the United States and is creating a domino effect around the world. Abbey and her friends must stick together if they are going to make it to safety.
Artz and Smith said the theme of the movie is that some will lead and some will follow - others will just snap.
In addition to the production of "Snap" - auditions for which will be during the summer - the pair are putting together a club on campus called UNC Filmmakers Group. This club is open to all University of Northern Colorado students and faculty who love film and all its aspects.
Students interested in "Snap" should contact Artz and Smith to acquire about available positions and how to become a member of UNC Filmmakers Group.
