Each Tuesday night, millions of viewers gather around their TVs to bear witness to cacophonic screaming, wild fighting and crass “ladies” that just so happen to live together in a huge mansion in Los Angeles. What is this madness that draws in record-breaking ratings each week on the Oxygen network? If you guessed “Bad Girls Club,” pat yourself on the back. “Bad Girls Club,” which has been around since December 2006, has been, to say the least, the hit of Oxygen.
The current season of “Bad Girls Club” has been the most drama filled yet. I must admit that I have taken part in this guilty pleasure of a “show” and often find myself getting wrapped up into the drama, the unnecessary drama. From the repugnant Natalie’s spew of “I run L.A.” to Amber’s ridiculous act of trying to throw Flo off the show after being attacked when the cause was her own fault: Amber pushed Flo in the pool and cracked open Flo’s ankle. Um, hello? I’d attack you, too. But this is all beside the point of the critique of the show.
Lately, I have been feeling as if trash television has just gotten trashier. Although I have admitted my liking of “Bad Girls Club,” along with this show comes the ridiculous “dating” shows that have emerged from primarily MTV and VH1. From “Flavor of Love” came “I Love New York.” From “A Shot of Love” came “A Double Shot of Love.” Then there’s “Daisy of Love” and “Rock of Love” and so on and so forth.
Why have we been so obsessed with such trashy shows? Yes, they are a guilty pleasure and make you feel great about your life because you’re not portrayed as an overtly brute individual searching for your soul mate. Apparently, show producers know how to catch the attention of audiences just right. Get ready for a treat “Bad Girls” fans. The Bad Girls have just gotten their own “searching for love” show.
“Love Games: Bad Girls Need Love Too,” an obvious spin-off of “Bad Girls Club,” is a dating show that features the ever dramatic Amber and Sarah from season three of BGC, as well as season four’s Kendra. The show will consist of 13 eligible bachelors finding ways to win over the girls. As the tagline goes, “How ‘bad’ will these girls be when love is on the line?” Viewers, get ready for a different level of “bad.”
“Love Games: Bad Girls Need Love Too,” will air March 16 and 23, after the reunion of season four’s “Bad Girls Club.” Be sure to mark your calendars.
