At a press conference today, UNC President Kay Norton addressed the actions the university has taken concerning the investigation of professor Raymond Vance Fulkerson.
Fulkerson, who is a voice coach and University of Northern Colorado theater professor, was arrested last week when a former UNC student called the police accusing Fulkerson of using a hidden video camera to film people using the toilet and shower in his Greeley residence. The allegations led to a search of the professor's home, where police discovered the hidden video camera as well as child pornography.
"I want to reiterate that the conduct described by the police, as the basis for Mr. Fulkeron's arrest, is totally unacceptable in our university community," Norton said.
Fulkerson, who has taught at UNC for 20 years, is now on administrative leave. Norton said he is not permitted on campus grounds, nor is he allowed to contact UNC students.
Since the arrest, several former UNC theater alumni have stepped forward and said they also experienced sexual misconduct from Fulkerson while attending UNC. One specific student claims he made a complaint to the university in 1991, but failed to get a response from the administration.
"The University of Northern Colorado has placed no limits in the investigation," Norton said. "We will fully investigate Mr. Fulkerson's conduct, as well as how the university has responded to the conduct over the years."
Norton said the university is utilizing outside legal assistance and human resources advisors to carry out a thorough investigation of the accusations.
"Given that we are talking about many years and many people, the truth is likely to be complicated and painful," Norton said. "We are going to learn whatever lessons there are in this sad situation because that is who we are and that is what we do at the University of Northern Colorado."
