Homecoming week kicks off today and on the University of Northern Colorado campus, that means fall is in full swing. For many, October is one of the best months of the year. Here's a top 10 list why October rocks, especially this year:

1. Halloween. Who doesn't love Halloween. For college students, it's a reason to dress up, or down to nearly nothing for some, and partake in a long-time college tradition - partying.

2. Sports. Combine the MLB playoffs, the NFL and college football season, the start of the NHL and NBA seasons and sports fans are on cloud nine. This year's Rockies team makes "Rocktober" even better.

3. Homecoming. One of the most eventful weeks of the year is in the middle of October and gives students a break from mid-semester studying.

4. Oktoberfest. It combines booze and laderhosen - enough said.

5. The haunted corn maze. UNC students are lucky enough to have such a spooky place nearby, others settle for haunted houses - not nearly as cool.

6. Fall fashions. Jeans, sweaters and hoodies make a comeback after spending the summer in the back of the closet.

7. The fall semester is halfway over. Students get to take a deep breath and gear up for the home stretch before the holiday season.

8. Fall colors. The UNC campus, in particular Central Campus, looks its best during the month of October.

9. Spice pumpkin laté at 7-11. Nothing like a trip to the convenience store on a cold night for a warm, tasty drink.

10. The squirrels on the UNC campus. Alright, so the squirrels are always out and acting crazy on campus, but we needed something to complete this list and given the well-known wacky antics of the UNC squirrels, we figured it was an appropriate ending to the list.
