Despite midterms falling smack dab in the middle of the University of Northern Colorado's 2007 Homecoming Week, the university should be commended for a diverse schedule of events.

Not only are all the traditional events still on the docket, but a few new and interesting events are being offered to students, along with a few twists on the traditional events.

Among the new events is an attempt to break the Guinness Book of World Record's mark for largest pillow fight. The fight will not only be a chance to beat up on some friends, but is also an opportunity for students to be in a music video. The Forecast will be performing prior to the pillow fight, and plan on filming it and using it in their next music video.

It's not every year students get the chance to beat up on each other and be in a music video.

A traditional event that has a bit of a twist this year is the bonfire and fireworks night. At the bonfire, a depiction of the Homecoming opponent's mascot, the Weber State Wildcat, is going to be lit on fire. Afterward, there will be a fireworks display, which will be set off to the tune of music for the first time this year.

These two events should attract several students, but combing them into one large event would not only increase the chances of breaking the world record, but also make for one hell of a night for students.

On the other hand, not everything this year is a big hit. The Homecoming Formal was added to the schedule this year, but this is something most students probably won't participate in. The formal is essentially a high school dance and most college students have had enough of those. Unless they are in Greek life of course, which already has its own formals every fall and spring semester.
