This year, people of all ages will be able to partake in a huge celebration thanks to St. Michael's Pavilion and on Wednesday some took advantage of the opportunity to meet rocker Alice Cooper.
St. Michael's, located off of Highway 34 and 65th Ave., will be featuring the Scare Fair, a huge Halloween activity aimed at people of all ages. With the help of Halloween special effects supplier Distortions Unlimited Corporation, the members of the St. Michael's staff have provided an ample exhibition for the holiday.
"This is the first year that we've done anything like this," Event Coordinator Misty Dockins said. "We're really excited to be putting on something so big. Distortions has provided a lot of materials that have made the whole thing unforgettable."
Scare Fair consists of five different kinds of haunted houses: the science fiction horror display "Evilution," the mystifying castle "Scream Kingdom," bloody stage spectacular "Splatter Rock Show," the dizzying "Alien Invasion in 3D" and the terrifying "Doorway to Death," which is so extreme that children under 10 are not allowed to enter it. Patron Sam Grant found "Doorway" to be a fine example of how a haunted house is supposed to be.
"It was a really fun experience," she said. "The whole thing was really dark, and not being able to see added to the atmosphere."
Besides the five main attractions, there are horrific set pieces dispersed all over the complex. A number of actors in costume roam around as well, making sure that customers get their money's worth of scares.
The first night of Scare Fair also featured a very special opportunity; the chance to meet the legendary rocker Cooper. With a repertoire that includes hard rock songs such as "School's Out" and "No More Mr. Nice Guy," Cooper makes for an ideal Halloween guest artist because of the twisted stage persona which has made him famous. In reality, the musician is very personable, and was happy to discuss his college-aged audience.
