An opportunity to sign up for passports will be available on the University of Northern Colorado campus once again this fall.

The Center for International Education and the USPS have come together for the second annual Passport Fair, held in the University Center Square.

More students than ever before have set their sights on different countries for their education. In the past 10 years, the number of American college students looking abroad has more than doubled.

To make studying abroad simple for students, The Passport Fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 24 and 25, both days. Students need to bring a driver's license and their birth certificate, with the raised seal. They also must know their mother's maiden name, place and date of birth, as well as their father's place and date of birth.

Cost of obtaining passports on campus is $97, the same as the post office charges, with an extra fee for picture and expedited service. Students are welcome to bring in their own passport photos, as long as the photos are on regulation paper and the correct size.

Passport photos are available at Walgreens or nearly any drugstore. Passports are valid for 10 years if you are 18 or older.

Junior history major Malorie Felt said she is glad the school offers this option for students.

"I think getting a passport from the fair is very convenient. It's a very good alternative to going to the post office," Felt said. "There is always a long line, even to mail a letter."

Junior communication major Sarah Klute already has her passport, yet she said the fair is helpful for any student that hasn't gotten around to getting one yet.

"Some people have traveled a lot," Klute said. "But some people haven't traveled at all, which makes this very convenient. Bringing anything closer for college students is a good idea."

Casey Goodman of the Center for International Education encourages all students interested in going abroad to come check out The Passport Fair.

"Usually to get a passport you have to stand in line, the whole process is a hassle," Goodman said. "This is convenient for students. They don't even have to leave campus."
