Today is the first day the Colorado Rockies and the Boston Red Sox face-off in the 2007 World Series, but finding a party on the University of Northern Colorado campus will be no easy task.
Every year, each of the UNC residence halls and Greeley bars hold a Super Bowl party where anyone can join, accompanied by food and drinks. However, there doesn't seem to be the same anticipation for the World Series.
Both McCowen Hall and Harrison Hall have considered World Series parties, but nothing is official yet in any of the residence halls.
According to McCowen Hall Director Marieanne Price, McCowen's staff met Tuesday to share ideas and deliberate on a World Series party, but the decision won't be reached until today.
Harrison Hall Director Will Dewese said a World Series party has been suggested, and also said if there is a party, there would be food for students who want to attend.
"I know that some of my RA's have talked about hosting a World Series party, kind of like the Super Bowl party," Dewese said.
Dewese also said Harrison might host the party during the last game.
"Currently they're looking at the last game, whether that's four or five," Dewese said.
Although having a party during every single World Series game would be difficult, it's unpredictable and certainly up to the Rockies and the Boston Red Sox whether or not the series ends during the fourth or fifth game. The series could reach Game 6 on Halloween or even Game 7 on Nov. 1.
Greeley sports bars such as Pitchers, 2501 11th Ave., and Bears, 2519 8th Ave., have planned specials for customers who want to watch the game at their establishments.
Kasey Schlyer, a manager from Pitchers, said they will have drink specials for their customers, including pitchers of Coors for $3, fitting since the Rockies play at Coors Field.
Terry Moore, an employee at Bears, said the bar will have drink specials.
"We're doing $8 all you can drink during every World Series game," Moore said.
Jackson's All American Sports Grill, 2100 35th Ave., Manager Nathan Wilcox doesn't know yet about drink specials for customers, but said the sports bar will be packed and that all the televisions will be tuned to the World Series.
Although there may not be very many World Series parties on the UNC campus or in Greeley, students will still be watching the games with their friends or families at their homes.
"I'm just gonna watch the games in my dorm room with my friends," said Bassam Albawab, a sophomore business major.
