The University of Northern Colorado volleyball team was eliminated from the Big Sky Tourna-ment in the first round on Friday.

The Bears entered the tournament facing the Weber State Wildcats, but unfortunately for UNC, they couldn't advance to the second round like they did last season. The team was swept by the Wildcats 3-0 (30-24, 30-26, 31-29).

Sophomore outside hitter Kenzie Shreeve led the offensive attack with 10 kills followed by sophomore outside hitter Taylor Smith who tallied nine kills. Smith also had four blocks against Weber State. Senior libero Abby Mayne finished her season with a bang, coming up with 22 digs.

The ill-fated conclusion of the volleyball team's season didn't go without its successes. Before the Big Sky playoffs, sophomore middle-blocker and outside hitter Allison Raguse and sophomore outside hitter Kenzie Shreeve earned honorable mentions by Big Sky coaches for the All-Conference teams.

Raguse led the team with a .255 hitting percentage and 1.08 blocks per game. Shreeve leads the Bears with 3.20 kills per game.

UNC will also only be losing two seniors, outside hitter Dulcie Stone and Mayne, while the rest on the team may stay intact for next year. Stone was second on the team in kills with 2.88 per game. Mayne led the team in digs with 4.31 per game followed by Stone who had 3.16 per game.

The Bears spent most of the season in the middle of the Big Sky pack with a record of 8-8 in the conference and 10-20 overall. Their record defied the expectations of Big Sky coaches, who in a poll before the season started, predicted UNC would finish eighth.
