The three weeks after Thanksgiving is without a doubt the most stressful stretch of time during the fall semester for any college student, but is that really the way it should be?
Somewhere along the line certain professors lost sight of the fact that finals week is for final exams. The week is designated just for those tests that every student dreads taking. The university even gives us the week off from classes so we can have extra time to study. The entire system is set up for us to succeed on our final exams by giving us maximum amounts of time to study.
On the other hand, having a few exams and projects during the week before finals week does give us even more time to study for exams in classes given at their designated time during finals week. So if you are one of the few lucky students who has a balance of finals before and during finals week, you're probably not too stressed out. However, if you're a student who has your final exams during finals week, or all of them prior to finals week, you're going through at least one hell week just to survive the semester.
Now, of course, sometimes life is just not fair, but when we're talking about something as important as a college education, maybe life should be fair. After all, we're dedicating three, four and even five years of our life to an education we're spending thousands of dollars on.
The concept of finals week was conceived for a reason and professors should not lose sight of that. When it gets right down to it, professors can make it easier for students to spread out their work load by allowing plenty of time to study for finals regardless of when they are given.
