Chaos Theatre's team members brought laughs and lightheartedness to their last scheduled show.
The troupe hosted its final scheduled show of the semester at 7 p.m. on Sunday night in room 205 of Frasier Hall. The 12 available Chaos members performed for an audience of about 30. Launching into their familiar gamut of improv games, the group had a little more leeway in their routine than usual.
The show was more of an open rehearsal than anything, so the team members were able to be a little more loose with their language, although they made sure to keep it within reason.
Among the games they played were "Monologues," which required the creation of five characters based off of a given word (in this case, "swan egg") and "Hero's Quest," which traced the feats of an adventurer with an impossibly long name who was solicited with saving the legendary Golden Pumpkin from a minotaur.
The climax was in the final game of the night known as "Musical," setting up a floor show with melodious accompaniment called "Scenes on a Bus." It quickly ballooned from the simple bus ride of a few average commuters into a lengthy battle over eternal damnation and the future of the world. This finale was exactly in the skewed, extravagant approach to comedy that Chaos has always tried to maintain.
"I think we put on a great show," said junior acting major Royce Wood. "It may be our last one this spring, but we're also hoping to do some over the summer at (freshman) orientation."
Wood will be taking over Chaos as the team captain in the fall. The current captain is senior acting major Kurt Larson. This last show was a finale for Larson as well as other graduating members, including senior acting major Andy Lacerte and senior musical theatre major Spencer Hughes.
The small but fervent audience voiced their appreciation of Chaos quite enthusiastically.
"I really enjoyed it," said freshman acting major Brittany Smith. "It's the first Chaos show I've ever seen, but I'd definitely like to see more of them in the fall."
Senior international studies major Makenna Roesch said she has made a point in noticing the trends of the group.
"I've seen about half of their shows and they've made a fine transition from short-form improv to long-form," she said. "No matter what they do, it's always funny."
Chaos team member Greyson Lewis, a junior acting and telecommunications major, reminisced on the past year with the company.
"I just love performing with all these guys," he said. "I won't be around for any of the summer stuff that they're doing, but I'll be glad to come back and rejoin them in the fall."
