LOVELAND - The ice rink was a war zone with gloves scattered across the ice at the end of the Colorado Eagles' 5-4 loss to the Texas Brahmas on Monday night at the Budweiser Event Center.

The battling between players started early in the game, as a scuffle broke out less than a minute into the first period. Pushing, shoving and exchanging of words continued through the game and resulted in 211 penalty minutes.

"It's playoffs, there's lots of emotions, you're battling out there," said Eagles center Riley Nelson.

But, the fighting didn't stop after the final horn sounded. Texas' Chris Thompson flipped the puck into Colorado's empty net, celebrating the win for the Brahmas, which lead to a bench-clearing brawl between both teams.

"From a hockey purist's standpoint, those are just things you don't do," said coach Chris Stewart in reference to Thompson's shot.

The scrums have led to the suspensions of two Colorado Eagles players, team captain Greg Pankewicz and defenseman Jay Birnie for three games each. Fines have also been issued to the Eagles and Brahmas for undisclosed amounts, as well as a fine to Eagle's right wing Fraser Filipic.

Despite all the fighting and penalty minutes, it was a high scoring contest in game six.

The puck traveled evenly back and forth on the ice. The Brahmas struck first, with a fast pass from forward Mark Carragher to forward Anders Strome to put the puck past Sebastien Laplante.

The Eagles didn't waste too much time catching back up to the Brahmas and evening the score at 1-1. The puck was quickly passed off from center Steve Haddon and Filipic to Les Borsheim, who shot the puck into the top corner of the net, just past goalie Brett Jaeger.

The second period started much like the first; the Brahmas scored their second goal of the game at 6:18. Blair Manning set up Tyler Skworchinski in front of the net, allowing him to fly the puck past Laplante.
