End of year elements that factor into stress
Issue date: 4/23/08 Section: Staff Reflections
With the end of the year winding down, a lot of stress begins to build. We listed the top five things that we think some students find difficult to cope with in the next three weeks of school.
No. 1 - Finals: In about a week and a half, students will close their spring 2008 semester with one thing in mind, finals. Whether students have their exams on finals week or have professors that graciously schedule their finals the week before, finals are undeniably the dreaded center of attention.
No. 2 - Projects, essays, etc.: Besides finals, these next weeks have in store the due dates of grade making or grade breaking projects, essays and other important assignments. Some students will find themselves juggling time between studying and producing quality work on these assignments.
No. 3 - Studying: Since finals are just around the corner, students must prepare and refine their knowledge for the exams. However, studying comes at a cost. Students are spending their time studying inside, wishing they were outside in the sun doing something else. Added, students are thinking about spending their Friday and Saturday nights with their faces buried in a textbook.
No. 4 - Saying goodbye: For seniors, this is a sad time when they say farewell to the friends they've made in their college years. For some students, this is a time to say goodbye to friends who've decided to transfer to another university or have decided that college isn't for them.
No. 5 - Finding a job: Some seniors may have everything planned until graduation, but after that, they can only shrug their shoulders. Now, they have to enter the real world and begin a life beyond college. Other students may have to find summer employment that will bring them a healthy enough income to last them for their next year at college.
