The University of Northern Colorado's Dining Services is trying to make finals week easier on students by offering study break snacks, longer hours at the Coffee Corners and more opportunities to use their Dining Dollars.

Study breaks will once again be offered during finals week, starting Monday and continuing through Thursday. All students with meal plans are eligible to take advantage of the study breaks from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. in both Tobey-Kendel Dining Hall and Holmes Dining Hall.

Earlier this semester, Dining Services decided to keep Starbucks at the University Center open on Sundays from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. to be more convenient for students who utilize the UC for studying.

Starbucks and Taco Bell will be keeping their regular semester hours through finals week, but the Coffee Corner at Michener will have extended hours.

In an effort to help students use the remainder of their Dining Dollars, Dining Services opened the Dining Dollars Depot on April 21 at the UC.

Susan Stopher, the marketing coordinator for UNC Dining Services, said they opened the depot so students could buy study snacks while they were at the UC.

"Students will be able to purchase one or more snacks, candy, drinks or muffins," Stopher said.

The Dining Depot will be open from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. through Friday of this week and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday through Thursday of finals week.

Some students who have made use of their Dining Dollars this semester applaud Dining Services for being accessible to students.

Elizabeth Villalon, a freshman bio-med major, uses her Dining Dollars at the UC and appreciates the convenience they offer.

"I think Dining Dollars is a great idea," Villalon said. "It allows the students to have more flexibility with what they are eating and when they are eating it."

Stopher denied that rumors about leftover food from Gourmet To Go is sold to students. She said this is not accurate.

"When ordering Gourmet To Go, we use past experiences to make educated forecasts to minimize overages," Stopher said.
