Christina Romero will be the editor-in-chief of the University of Northern Colorado's student newspaper, The Mirror, for the 2008-2009 school year. She will be succeeding Nate Taylor, who is graduating in May.
"The Mirror is the voice of the students," Romero said. "It plays a critical role in the campus community because it can effect an organization, person or event, which is why we practice accuracy, being unbiased, trustworthiness and all around, sound reporting."
Romero, a sophomore journalism major, has been working at The Mirror for the past two years. She began as an entry-level news reporter during her freshman year. She also worked as the assistant news editor and moved up to the news editor position.
She said she is excited about the direction The Mirror will be taking under her leadership.
"This year, I hope to build strong communication with various groups and people on campus so we can better serve the university by providing a diverse range of information, news and entertainment for our audience," Romero said.
Romero also said she hopes to make The Mirror more visually appealing by incorporating skills she will learn at her visual media internship with The Greeley Tribune this summer.
Despite the stress of the job, Romero said she is looking forward to leading The Mirror next year.
"While the job can be stressful and time consuming, it's worth the effort and sanity sometimes because it is exhilarating," Romero said. "I enjoy meeting new people, hearing their stories and sharing their stories with others."
