UNC's tradition is graduating as a Bear
Staff Report
Issue date: 5/2/08 Section: Staff Reflections
All year it has been brought to our attention that the University of Northern Colorado lacks tradition. Perhaps we haven't looked at the bigger picture. If you are willing to stay here until you graduate, then you have found some pride in being a Bear. Therefore, a tradition we should be proud of is holding an alma mater from UNC.
While the years in college can be tough, they are also a stage in life that helps us learn more about ourselves. We change, learn limitations, meet new people and grow, becoming who we are.
For many seniors, it's time for graduation. This stage is over and a new one will begin. It's not easy leaving school and moving on to pursue a career. It's hard to say good-bye to friends, but it's time for some to combine their studies, experiences and innovations, and apply them to new beginnings.
While some students will walk away with few memories involving school traditions, they will walk away with personal traditions. From tailgating to movie nights, there's plenty of photos on Facebook that capture those moments.
So whether you were a suitcase student, athlete, member of the cultural centers, played a role on the student body government or part of residence life, once you walk at commencement, you will be one of many Bears who holds an alma mater from UNC. It's something to be proud of, even if people from Colorado State University or the University of Colorado say differently.
We would like to congratulate everyone who is graduating and wish them a bright future. We appreciated everyone's involvement with this publication and would especially like to thank the journalism department as well as Darrell Blair for advising us. An extended thanks to former chief editor Nate Taylor for his hard work and dedication.
