Lively music erupted from the west lawn of the University Center Wednesday at the World Expo and Study Abroad Fair.
Various food and drink samples from around the world offered a unique taste of cultures and demonstrated the wonderful diversity of UNC study abroad programs. From Central America, South America, Europe, Asia and Africa, there are options in almost every corner of the globe.
Center for International Education (CIE) not only provides students with an opportunity to travel abroad, but it can also provide students with the means. The Passport Office is located in UC room 2205 and is open from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
“I wanted to help people have as much fun abroad as I did,” said Lexi Clifford, a senior history major.
Clifford studied in both Germany and South Korea, with nothing but good experiences about both trips.
UNC is one of fewer han 50 universities in the nation that makes it possible for passports to be obtained through the school. Goabroad.com also had a booth at the fair informing students that it can provide matches and scholarships to fit a student’s needs in one of the company’s 27,000 programs.
“I lived oversees in high school,” said Emily Andrade, a biology and pre-med major. “It got me interested in other cultures, and I’ve always been fascinated.”
Different environments provide new and exciting avenues for learning. A student, regardless of area of study, could undoubtedly find rich stimulation in locations outside of the United States. Students studying in Greeley from around the world were present at the Study Abroad Fair as well, representing their home country.
“I always wanted to check out Colorado,” said Atil Sveinsson, a second-year student receiving a master’s degree in sport and exercise science. “I saw they had a cancer research center, so I just jumped on it.”
Whether a student loves the ocean, the mountains or the city life, UNC has a study abroad program to fit him or her.
