UNC has a new program this year through the Campus Recreation Center; it's called Outdoor Pursuits.
The program allows students and staff to go on outings around Colorado. This past Outdoor Pursuits went white water rafting Saturday on the upper Colorado River.
The program is a cost-effective way to meet new people and see more of the state. The trip was collaborated with Mad Adventures Rafting in Kremmling.
According to the program's website, HYPERLINK "http://www.unco.edu/campusrec" www.unco.edu/campusrec, Outdoor Pursuits was established after the Quality of Life Act was during the Student Senate elections last spring.
The approval, which raised student fees slightly, was able to fund other recreational programs, as well. Some of the new equipment offered includes hiking gear and bike rental.
Both students and faculty can rent equipment. Students are provided with these things for free except for the trips; the trips have a small fee.
Faculty members have to pay a minimal price. Some of the gear rentals offered for trips include tents, backpacks, snowboards, sleeping bags and cooking gear.
The rental shop is located at the south end of the large gym, and the hours of operation are noon to 6p.m Monday and Friday, and noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday. Also, there are more trips planned for the remainder of the semester.
Campus Recreation Center staff members said there will be a rock climbing and camping trip. For more information, visit HYPERLINK "http://www.unco.edu/campusrec" www.unco.edu/campusrec and click the Outdoor Pursuits link, or contact the Campus Recreation Center at 970-351-GEAR.
