Broadcasts like “Pop and Talk” have been adopted by students with various interests, such as Student Senate, relationship advice and various other programs.

Fox and Vincent’s show discusses popular music and culture with their personal selection of mainstream songs. The two have a contrasting rapport that coats the show: Fox voices her opinions and outlook on popular culture issues while Vincent quietly provides color commentary.

“I just came in and filled out an application last semester, and at about the beginning of this semester, I received a call asking me if I still wanted to have a show,” Fox said.

Fox also said her favorite thing is just being on air and being in the studio itself.

Both said they have never worked at a radio station before.

“I took theater in high school, so I didn’t really have any stage fright when I started,” Vincent said.

Sam Wood, a junior history secondary education major and the general manager of the University of Northern Colorado Radio Station, said he has been with the radio station for two years and first became a part of it through his friend who has a sports show.

“We’ve had a lot of different, unique shows, such as a relationship advice show and different sports commentary broadcasts,” Wood said. “I like being able to get to meet a lot of different people.”

Wood is not a journalism major, but he said he has always had an interest in it. He said he still plans to pursue teaching once he graduates. He also said there are no tryouts and anyone who is a student and wants to run a show can come by and the station will try to fit them in.

“One of the biggest issues is airtime,” Wood said. “Everyone wants a late-night show, and we can’t always put them in that slot.”
