Hundreds of students are expected to flock to Turner Green Thursday evening as the lawn is transformed into a stage for UNC Student Radio's first ever concert.
The University of Northern Colorado Student Radio is hosting a concert featuring the bands In the Whale, Glass Delirium, The Photo Atlas and Heart & Soul Radio, formerly known as Dork and Animo.
All of the bands are from Colorado, as In the Whale is from Greeley and the other three are from the Denver area.
The show will begin at 5 p.m. with a performance by In the Whale and will end with headliner Heart & Soul Radio. Heart & Soul Radio had songs featured in the motion picture "American Pie Presents Band Camp."
Sam Wood, a senior history major and the general manager of UNCSR, said part of the reason he chose to bring these bands to UNC is because they are all Colorado-based.
"I chose these bands in particular because the local Colorado music scene is awesome and they're bands that show that," Wood said. "They're really good bands and very unique bands."
The bands play a variety of different styles of rock music, ranging from pop-punk to indie to alternative.
UNCSR is an SFAP funded organization and Wood said this is the station's way of giving back to the students for supporting the station.
"We need to give back," Wood said. "We're showing that we're more than a voice coming out of the speakers. We don't do many events, but this will not be our last."
Wood said UNCSR will be hosting another concert the first week of the 2011-12 academic year.
Glowsticks, tattoos and other giveaways will be handed out to attendees by UNCSR staff.
The Turner Coffee Corner will open at 5 p.m. for students to purchase food and drinks before the show.
Representatives from Morbid Nights Haunted House and Personally Yours by Ideas from the Harrt will also be at the concert to talk to students about their businesses.
