This year's Engaged Scholarship Symposium will showcase some of the university's best and brightest by offering presentations from students, faculty and community organizers.
This year, the Engaged Scholarship Symposium will take place from 1-3 p.m. Tuesday in the University Center Ballrooms.
The ceremony is the Second Annual Engaged Scholarship Awards and is free to students. Students and faculty did have to apply to participate in this event. Winners will receive a $100 cash prize.
According to the Engaged Scholarship Symposium website, the mission of this event is to "create a venue in which community-engaged research, scholarship and creative works are showcased to facilitate networking and recognize excellence in an interactive symposium."
"The symposium is intended to give faculty and students the opportunity to work together and showcase projects they have worked on together," said Michael Kimball, the director of the Center for Honors and Leadership and associate professor of Anthropology.
Students and faculty participating in the event will be presenting posters they have made about how their work has had an impact on each of their lives and the community. The posters will be about individuals who were involved with regional and/or globally-applied community-based research, partnerships and other activities.
Overall, the Engaged Scholarship Symposium shows how education goes beyond the classroom. Education can have an impact and make a difference in people's lives if applied correctly. It's all about the experiences students and faculty have outside the classroom.
"Those experiences advance the mission of the university," said Kimball.
Their vision of the Symposium is to create a place where ideas are sparked, connections are made, and seeds for future projects are planted in order to promote community-based solutions to regional and global challenges.
Students can help make their vision come true by stopping by to see what others have been up to on campus.
