There is a distinct buzz around campus as freshmen and upperclassmen alike are eager partake in a week-long celebration of Homecoming Week at UNC.

Homecoming Week is hosted by the members of the University Program Council, coordinated with clubs and local businesses.

"We want the school to know it's Homecoming Week," said Kelsey Murray, UPC's traditional events coordinator.

Murray, along with her fellow UPC members, helped put together the six days of events that make up this year's Homecoming Week. She said she is looking forward to it.

"We love to see students come to our events," she said.

Homecoming week will include events and festivities beginning today and leading up to the football game on Saturday afternoon against the University of Montana, followed by the annual formal.

Murray said she is most excited for the UNC Bear Sync, which is planned for Thursday night in the University Center Ballrooms.

Bear Sync allows for different University of Northern Colorado organizations and clubs to put on skits and other performances both to promote their organization and share a good laugh.

"It's exciting for a lot of organizations," Murray said. "It's really cool to see how into it people get."

While Bear Sync is an annual event, there are new attractions added to this year's Homecoming Week.  For example, the UNC Community Fest, scheduled for Saturday morning after the Homecoming Parade, is new his year.

The Community Fest will feature booths from UNC organizations, clubs and local businesses. This event is open to the public and is free to attend. Community Fest is expected to attract a lot of attention, even though this is its first year.

"We really want to bring the community together," Murray said. "We want to show everything UNC has to offer and interact with the community as well."

While Murray and UPC planned a number of the Homecoming events, other campus organizations had a hand in creating Homecoming Week.

The Friday night bonfire and the Saturday night formal - two of Homecoming's most popular events - were both planned by UNC's Residence Hall Association. Nearly every club and organization at UNC will receive some sort of exposure through Homecoming Week, especially at Community Fest.
