The University of Northern Colorado’s women’s soccer and volleyball teams recently won the Big Sky Tournament. UNC’s women’s soccer had a score of 1-0, defeating Eastern Washington, and women’s volleyball had a score of 3-1 against Sacramento State.

“It was a great feeling to win the championship and I’m glad I finally got to experience something that incredible with a hard working group of girls,” said Taylor Bray, a junior soccer player at UNC who scored the first and only winning goal. “The game was back and forth in possession, but I believe that we wanted it more than they did. That really motivated us and gave us the energy to go on and win the last soccer game.”

Bray went on to be named “Most Outstanding Player of the Tournament.”

Maddie Barkow, a junior at UNC, initiated the throw in to Bray.

“Winning the Big Sky Tournament was one of the best feelings ever,” Barkow said. “We scored in the first half, and had many other chances to score again. After the first half, the team was filled with energy and confidence that we could seep our lead and win the tournament. It was a great feeling to finally bring a trophy to UNC, I am super proud of the team.”

Junior Taylor Muff, who added 15 kills and a service ace in women’s volleyball’s win against the Hornets said, “Winning the Conference Title was a huge accomplishment for us. Our goal has always been to win the Big Sky Tournament, but winning the regular season has given us a lot of confidence going into that and shows how hard we’re working to reach our goal this year.”

The University of Northern Colorado’s women’s volleyball became the fourth team to have 17 recorded conference wins within Big Sky history.

The women’s soccer and volleyball teams took home an amazing title for the UNC Bears in the 2019 Big Sky Tournament. This win means a lot to all team members and individuals involved, and it took a lot of hard work to get to where they are.
