The UNC baseball team heads to Arizona this weekend for a three-game series against the high-powered offense of the University of Arizona that begins at 4 p.m. today at Kindall Field/Sancet Stadium.

The Wildcats (8-4) are on a three-game winning streak, during which they have outscored their opponents, Cal State Fullerton and St. Joseph's, by a combined 39-6 margin.

Arizona swept Utah Valley, the preseason favorites in the Great West Conference, in a three-game series to open the season.

Two talented sophomores, outfielder Steve Selsky and catcher Jett Bandy, who are both batting well over .400 on the young season, lead the Wildcats at the plate. Bandy has added four home runs and 15 RBI to his .490 average.

The man to watch on the mound for Arizona is freshman right-handed pitcher Kurt Heyer. Heyer is 1-0 in three starts this season and has struck out 26 while walking just one in 17 innings.

The University of Northern Colorado (3-5) is coming off the longest game in program history, a 15-inning loss at Sam Houston State. The University of Northern Colorado is led offensively by sophomore outfielder Adrian Schenk, who is hitting a robust .500 on the season.

The Bears will rely on starting pitchers Joe Willman, a left-handed sophomore, and Joe Sawicki, a right-handed senior, to slow down an Arizona offense that averages just under nine runs per game. The Bears will also need to improve their 7.66 bullpen ERA in order to stay in games with the Wildcats.
