The UNC softball team added its second victory Monday afternoon against South Dakota State, defeating the Jackrabbits 7-3 at Butler-Hancock Softball Field.

The Bears tallied 12 hits on the afternoon in their first home game of the season; three of them off the bat of sophomore catcher Erin Wilkinson, who doubled twice and had three RBIs in the game.

The University of Northern Colorado (5-13) trailed SDS (5-13) 1-0 early; but in the bottom of the second inning, Bears’ starting pitcher, junior Kelli Henderson, grounded out to third with runners on second and third, plating the tying run.

The Bears never looked back from that point as they scored five runs over the next two innings and gave Henderson more than enough run support. Seven different UNC players tallied at least one hit on the afternoon.

Henderson then pitched her best game of the season, going the full seven innings while only allowing two earned runs and striking out three batters.

The Bears will now hit the road again as they head to Arizona for the University of Arizona Tournament starting on March 12. The next time UNC plays in Greeley will be March 27 against in-state rivals, the Colorado State Rams.
