In the wake of Hurricane Harvey and anticipation of Hurricane Irma, the Northern Colorado football game at University of Florida set for Saturday morning has been cancelled.
The game was originally scheduled for 5:30 p.m. mountain time, but was moved to 10 a.m. in an attempt to get all people home safely.
Officials came to the conclusion that the game would add more traffic than a state preparing for a category-five hurricane can handle, and the participants' safety was a priority.
“The safety and well-being of the student athletes, coaches, staff and fans have been of the utmost concern during our ongoing communication with University of Florida officials,” UNC Athletic Director Darren Dunn said in a UNC press release. “Our thoughts and well wishes are with the university and whole state of Florida during what is expected to be a difficult next few days.”
There are no common schedule openings between the two teams, so the game will not be rescheduled.
