Dear Students and Faculty of UNC,
It is with great pleasure that I welcome everyone back to campus. The Mirror is once again back up and running, very excited to bring news to our readers.
Firstly, I wanted to introduce myself as the new Editor-in-Chief of the paper. My name is Greg Egbert and I'm currently a Junior at UNC getting my Bachelor's in journalism with a minor in economics. In my free time, I enjoy spending time at the rec center working out.
I served as the Managing Editor last year and helped run the website and social media pages. On top of maintaining the digital profile of The Mirror, I also oversaw the production of our very first magazine edition titled "The Mirror: Reflecting on the Year" in which we compiled, edited, and published the very best of what we have to offer in magazine format.
Copies of the magazine can be found in the Mirror newspaper boxes located on campus during the first week of classes, so make sure to grab one before they're gone. I will keep them stocked as best as I can as the only employee of The Mirror currently.
I wanted to take some time and address the community of Bears and to talk about some plans that I have in order to best keep student up to date on current news.
Our biggest change for this year will be a complete redesign of our website, courtesy of SNworks. Originally developed by Michigan State University, we will be using a web template built specifically for media outlets. While work is being done on that site, all of our previous articles are still available to read and will be archived on the new domain.
This year I am dedicated to spreading the word about the freedom of press and the power of journalism, and you can find me on campus promoting my cause and inviting students to write for The Mirror.
A degree in journalism isn't required, and no experience is required. I am more than happy to work with students who are looking to be published in the paper, you can reach out to me with my business email editor@uncmirror.com or my school email egbe3658@bears.unco.edu as well.
I have more in store for later on, and I will be sure to update our readers when the time comes. Until then, I want to wish everyone good luck entering into the 2024-2025 school year.
Sincerely,
Greg Egbert,
Editor-in-Chief of the UNC Mirror
