POEM: Peace and Love and Unity

Peace and love and unity—

Is what the Olympics is said to be.

Games and fun and community, Diversity equality harmony— Endless opportunity.

Dreams of gold, courageous and bold; Passions grow as hope unfolds.

Flags rise high,

A beacon cutting through the sky, Where five bright rings seem fit to fly.

Torches touched by many—

A symbol shared by plenty.

No hate—all peace—it mimicks, Though there are many gimmicks.

Peace and love and unity–

Shadowed by hostility.

Games and fun and community– Masked by hypocrisy.

Diversity, equality, harmony– Smothered by animosity.

Endless opportunity,

Lost inside impunity.

Fueled by inspiration,

Twisted by manipulation.

Celebrating nations,

While the world suffers devastations.

Peace and love and unity

A pretty lie for you and me.
