UNC’s emergency alert system notified students of an incident at 10th Ave. and 21st St. Weds. afternoon.

“Urgent UNC message: Police emergency@ 10 ave / 21 street. Danger. Area closed. Avoid area,” the text alert read. A link to emergency.unco.edu was also included, with additional information, including that the UNC Police were not involved in the incident and are “patrolling campus as usual.”

Nate Haas, Director of University News and Public Relations for UNC, confirmed that Greeley Police, not UNC’s police force, responded to the incident, but due to the proximity to campus an alert was issued.

The emergency alert system notifies members of UNC’s campus of “critical, urgent and disruptive incidents,” according to UNC’s website. It issues alerts through cell phones, landline phones that are included in some rooms on campus, internal PA systems that were recently installed in residence halls, and email.
