Candidates for Greeley Mayor Express Plans for the City as Election Looms

With the local election coming up on Nov. 4, the two mayoral candidates for the city of Greeley have been set. Mayor Pro Tem Dale Hall and Tiffany Simmons. Both have strong campaigns, but only one will win the race.

“The people need transparency and we need people to be able to be themselves,” Simmons said.

“I’m feeling very good about the people of Greeley and how they're gonna vote,” Hall said.

Current mayor of Greeley John Gates’ term has come to an end. Gates was first elected as Greeley mayor in 2017, and now has served his eighth and final year. On November 4, a new face will take his place as mayor.

Both mayoral candidates, Simmons and Hall, are Weld County natives and both have plans to continue making Greeley a safe and thriving place to live.

Simmons is a UNC graduate and former high school math teacher. She currently works as a trauma therapist and has a sole goal of bringing trust and transparency to the city of Greeley.

“I’m going to tell you the same thing I tell my people here as a therapist," Simmons said. "It's like I’m just me. I don't know how to be anyone other than me. I never intended to be in politics even a little bit. I decided to run, because I’m kind of a natural advocate, and it seemed like this was the next big step to speak up for my community and be a voice. Cascadia was kind of what brought me into it with people not having a voice."

Simmons did not go into deep specifics of what her goals were if elected as mayor outside of establishing trust between residents and city leaders, but she did discuss her plans on the Cascadia project.

“I was very baffled when I heard about the project, and I wanted it to make sense,” Simmons said. “I want us to pause the spending we are doing right now. There will be a vote regardless, and I would like for us to be considering community feedback, and seeing if we can bring it to a vote and see if Greeley really wants this.”

Simmons believes Greeley’s focus needs to be on infrastructure and having economic balance between east and west Greeley before a large Catalyst project like Cascadia is implemented.

"The numbers don't add up in a way that is good for Greeley,” Simmons said.

Mayor Pro Tem Dale Hall is an Aims Community College graduate who served in the United States Army as a personnel specialist and was a sergeant for the Weld County Sheriff's office for the investigation unit. He currently serves as city council member Ward IV for the past seven years. His main goal if elected as mayor is to continue his current mission of economic growth in Greeley, and housing for all.

“Last year in November I didn't even know If I wanted to run for this position, but the more I thought about it, I wanted to be there for the residents of Greeley,” Hall said.

Hall also expressed his plans for the Cascadia project moving forward into 2026 if elected as mayor.

“The Catalyst project is there for the purpose of economic development to help bring in some good, needed property tax and sales tax to the city so we can do other things throughout the city and help pay for the growth of Greeley,” Hall said. “I do think it will be a huge catalyst for economic growth."

Ballots for local elections in Colorado close at 7 p.m. Nov. 4 for mail in or drop off ballots. Elected candidates will be announced later that evening.
